The Struthers girls softball team just started mandatory practices for the upcoming 2026 season.
The Ladycats had their first seasonal scrimmage March 6, 2026.
The Stuthers girls softball team has rebranded this year, with new coaches, more practices and far more opportunities. The girls just started their mandatory practices a week ago but have been practicing way before then in the Athletix winter league. The Ladycats have been practicing in Manor for pitching and hitting practices and the indoor field at Sluggers practicing feilding fundamentals and plays.
The time the girls put into mandatories will show on the field come season.
“I think the season can go either way, but I see a lot of good things at practice, and I think we can definitely win some games if we keep it together,” says junior first baseman Livia Waback.
This year is filled with so many changes and opportunities for the girls. The coaches really have been putting their heart and soul into helping make this the best season yet. With new uniforms, home field, practice facilities and incorporating journaling into practices the girls are looking like a well-trained unit.
The NE8 conference is looking like it’s filled with challenging and well trained teams.
“Every season and team have hard games and easy games; I think as long as we go out with intention and we actually try we can stand our ground for a lot of games,” says Waback.
The Ladycats haven’t had the best luck with winning in past years, but something they have always had in a close knit team. Most of the girls on the team have been playing together since t-ball, and it really shows in the energy brought to every game and practice. This year it feels like that energy is on level 10, and the Cats are ready to bring it all in the next couple of weeks.
Every athlete on the Struthers softball team has a lively personality that sets up the team for success.
“The girls on the team are some of the kindest and inviting people that I know, and I think that transfers very well on and off of the field,” says Waback.
