Ryan Day can finally take a break and a breath of fresh air as Ohio State dismantled Michigan 27-9 which ended a four year streak of losing in The Game.
This win for the Buckeyes not only raises their chances of a national title with an undefeated record, but it also secures them a very likely bye in the college football playoff. For Michigan, the loss shows the need for improvement in their offense.
Julian Sayin was the surge for the Buckeyes offense with 3 touchdown passes; he completed 19 of 26 passes for 233 yards. The infamous Buckeyes defense played outstanding once again and limited the hyped up Michigan run game to only 100 yards.
Despite the debate of whether the touchdown pass caught by Jeremiah Smith was upheld, Ohio State also seized the moment with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Sayin to Carnell Tate which helped the Bucks secure their victory.
Day knows that this game means a lot especially because of how it ended last year.
“Winning this game means a-lot, especially considering where we were last year.”
The game saw multiple critical plays and moments, such as Smith’s contested touchdown catch and a very lengthy drive that kept Michigan without the ball for twelve minutes. Michigan’s offensive struggles and their special teams issues were clear with Bryce Underwood producing a season-low in passing yards.
The Buckeyes well-rounded offense and very stubborn defense allowed them to get out to a comfortable lead and never look back which showed that they’re ready for the postseason.
Sayin admits they’ve played with a chip on their shoulder all year.
“Throughout the season, we’ve played with an edge and aggression,” he says.
Day really emphasized the importance of this win because of their previous four losses to Michigan.
“It’s not been easy over the past four years,” he says.
This win boosts the Buckeyes confidence and their position as they put the pads on for the Big Ten Championship and their playoff games, while the Wolverines face the challenge of getting ready for next season.
