Mineral Ridge defeated Struthers variety girls basketball team on Wednesday, November 26 at Mineral Ridge Rams High School.
Going into this game, if the Struthers Wildcats wanted to win, they needed to go hard since they barely got beat by Mineral Ridge last time they played each other.
Both teams, Struthers and Mineral Ridge, knew going into this game, neither of the teams could go easy. Last season when the teams played against each other on November 27th, 2024, the score was 54-53, making Mineral Ridge win by only 1 point.
Wolikow was delighted with how the team competed due to them having some disadvantages.
“I was happy with how we played despite having injuries and low numbers and that we got to see what areas we need to work on,” said Wolikow.
During this game, both teams had amazing plays. Sullivan Sandy from Mineral Ridge dropped 25 points and Gianna Gilbert added 8 more, starting the game off quickly. As for Struthers, Wolikow released 9 points and Natalie Adams had 8. Both teams were going strong, fighting for the win.
The basketball player is thrilled with how her team played throughout the game.
“We never gave up and we always hustled up and down the court,” said Wolikow.
As the Wildcats try to keep up to the best of their ability, the Rams keep rolling up points back to back, leaving the score to be 57-22 with the Rams winning. As much as both teams really wanted to win, Mineral Ridge brought it to the court, leading Struthers to defeat.
Wolikow feels that the more the team practices together, the better they’ll get.
“We could have been better prepared for this game by having better attendance at practice,” said the basketball player.
