Cooper Flagg has now recorded one of his career highs of 29 points against the New Orleans Pelicans in their NBA Cup game on November 21st coming out with the win.
Flagg hasn’t been having a season that fans expected of him, but as the season progresses, he is performing more and more as he is expected. His progressive performance has led the Mavericks to beat the Pelicans in their Cup Group stage game.
Flagg recorded 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. He averages 17 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Flagg’s seasonal performances are quickly starting to pick up, giving the fans the satisfaction they expected.
The NBA Cup game was Flagg’s best season game so far in the 25-26 season.
“Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick last summer, was 12 of 19 from the field and had seven rebounds and five assists after sitting out an NBA game for the first time Wednesday night,” says ESPN Analyst.
Flagg went 63% from the field which exceeds his average percentages this season.Reigning down from a 15-point deficit, the Mavericks came back to secure the 118-115 win over the Pelicans with a magnificent Flagg performance. This NBA Cup win pushed the Mavericks record to 5-12.
“He’s done that for us all season – the big rebounds, a big block, a big basket,” coach Jason Kidd said of Flagg. “Clutch, he’s not afraid. We get him the ball and he seems like he’s been there before, being able to score when you need a bucket. When everyone knows you’re coming to him, he delivered and for an 18 year old, that’s pretty special,” says Jason Kidd, Mavericks Coach.
Even though the Mavs’ face a 5-12 record, they have a 1-2 Cup Stage record.
Flagg was praised for the important moments he exceeded. Flagg was very clutch when his team needed him to be in the fourth quarter even if it was just effort, rebounds or even assists, not just points.
“We’ve seen this before. We could have used it last game, but understanding his poise and understanding how to get to his spot offensively, or how to use a teammate or find a teammate… I thought he was coming back from his illness, he attacked early. And then he started to settle. At halftime we talked a little bit about what I thought he should do. He responded… For an 18-year-old to understand what was asked of him, he did it at a high level,” says Kidd.
