Donovan Mitchell scored thirty-seven points, helping the Cavs beat the Bucks 118-106. The game was highlighted by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury; he left the game with a groin strain and did not end up returning. His status for the coming games is questionable.
Giannis, who averages 33 points, played only 13 minutes before exiting the game. Bucks coach Doc Rivers said that more tests would be run to find out the severity. Despite leaving the game, he still scored 14 points and pulled in 5 rebounds.
Mitchell’s exotic first half where he scored 25 points was what sparked the Cavs comeback.
In a media interview, Mitchell said, “The team was playing their “B game,” and we need to raise the standard.”
Cavaliers Sam Merrill added 20 points, which included six three-pointers. He scored 11 in the fourth quarter, and the Cavs led by as many as 14 late in the game.
Milwaukee saw seven players score ten or more points; the scoring was led by point guard Ryan Hollins who had 22. Despite their effort on the offensive side, they couldn’t do enough to stop Mitchell and the Cavs on the other end.
The Cavs currently hold the second best record in the Eastern Conference, but Atkinson thinks it could be better.
Atkinson says, “I’m glad we pulled it out. It’s not smooth sailing right now. We’re still a bit clunky, on both sides of the ball.”
Cleveland has now won seven straight against Milwaukee and 19 of 23 since March 2024. This game showed how depth and resilience are key, especially with injuries.
