The Dallas Mavericks have had some reports about how their season is not going how it was expected to go from reports in the off-season, after acquiring the first pick in the NBA Draft.
Cooper Flagg, being the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, noticed his team’s slow start after their first away win. In the western conference, the Mavericks are 14th which is second to last place which was not expected by fans in the offseason.
The Mavs’ are 3-9, but during Flagg’s high school career, he only lost a total of eight games over four years. Flagg acknowledges that he has never lost this many games, and it has really affected him. With the Mavs’ performing how they are, in the long run, they won’t be able to make the playoffs with the slow start they’ve been having.
Flagg is disappointed with the way things have been going with the Mavericks.
“Things obviously haven’t gone extremely well for us so far. It isn’t the start we’ve been looking for,” Flagg said.
Flagg, in his freshman year at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine, only lost one game. During his time at Montverde Academy and Duke Blue Devils, he only lost 7 games, so Flagg is not expected to lose this many games this quickly.
Cooper is not anyone to lose games, and he notices the slack in his team.
“It’s the most I’ve lost since, I think, ever,” Flagg said.
Flagg isn’t the worst in his draft class, but he definitely isn’t living up to his expectations he had before his debut. Some people say he is still regarded as the best in his class, but many don’t think so. Flagg came out of high school and college hot so his low, unexpected numbers are very surprising to people.
Flagg knows not everyone is happy with his performance.
“For me it’s the most I’ve lost since, you know, I think ever,” Flagg said. “I wouldn’t say anybody is happy,” Flagg added.
