In the longest postseason game in MLB history–lasting over six hours in an eighteen inning clash–the Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 6-5 in game three on October 27.
This game was a huge test of stamina. The game will be remembered for a long time simply because of its longevity.
Dodgers Freddie Freeman marked a milestone in his career and MLB history as he became the first player to have multiple walk-off home runs in the World Series. The game had a total of 609 pitches which is by far the most ever in a playoff game.
The Blue Jays ended up using 23 of the 26 players on their roster, which tied a playoff record, and the Dodgers also used 10 of their pitchers which set a record.
Shohei Ohtani played astonishingly. By the end of the game, he had reached base nine times and also had four extra-base hits–that included two home runs.
John Schneider, Blue Jays manager said, “He had a good game, he’s a good player, but I think after that, you just have to take the bat out of his hands.”
Shohei was walked intentionally four times, one of the most rare moments in MLB history. Ohtani also tied a record after having four extra-base hits in a postseason game. His game three performance was one for the books.
Freddie Freeman’s walk-off home run in the 18th inning put an end to the game after being an instant classic; it featured many big plays and crazy moments.
Freeman said, “To have it happen again a year later, hitting another walk-off is kind of amazing and crazy.”
Freeman also did it in game one of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, and not even a year later, he’s back at it.
“It is one of the greatest World Series games of all time,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
The Dodgers won the World Series in seven games.
