Alabama won their game against South Carolina to continue their winning streak on Saturday, October 25.
With this win, Alabama holds on to a 7 game winning streak–four of them being against ranked opponents–increasing their chances of making the playoffs.
This win wasn’t easy for the Tide. Heisman candidate Ty Simpson wasn’t performing up to his expectations, and the defense had a hard time managing the GameCocks offense.
Simpson, starting quarterback, was happy with how his teammates fought through adversity.
“It’s hard to win in the SEC, hard to win on the road. Just such a great, resilient win by the guys, man. Super proud of the team. Just kept fighting,” says Simpson.
The whole game Alabama was struggling. In the 4th quarter, Alabama’s star receiver Germie Bernard had a clutch last minute touchdown to tie the game. South Carolina got the ball back with a 1:50 left in the 4th and had a chance to win. As the GameCocks were driving, QB Lanoris Sellers called his own number and ran the ball up the middle. As he was going down, Alabama linebacker Deantae Lawson had a game winning fumble recovery.
Lawson, linebacker, loves his team and is glad he was a big factor in their win.
“I just try to do everything I can to help these guys win,” says Lawson.
The Crimson Tide now looks forward to their upcoming bye week after facing off against 4 ranked teams in a row. After their bye, Alabama plays an unpredictable LSU team at home on Nov. 8.
Alabama Head Coach DeBoer doesn’t know what to expect against LSU due to the new staff firings.
“Unfortunately, I think just in the coaching world and these teams that have had these situations pop up, you can see it kind of go both directions, where the next week, in particular, there’s a different energy,” says DeBoer.
