The New York Jets have pulled off a crazy 2nd half comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 26 at Paycor Stadium.
With this win over the Bengals, the Jets avoided a winless season.
Going into this game, everyone had the Bengals as the favorite to win. Facing an 0-7 team, everyone would think the same except the Jets–they had a plan to shock the world. After acquiring Joe Flacco from the Browns and getting a huge win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals looked like they were back.
Quarterback Flacco reflects on the Browns trading him to the Bengals.
“A little bit chaotic, head spinning but just gonna try to come in with an open mind and figure out what we got going on,” says Flacco.
The game itself was an absolute roller coaster as the Jets were able to close the door on the Bengals 39-38. It was as expected; the Jets were trailing the Bengals going into the half. But, going into the 2nd half, the Bengals were too relaxed and made many mistakes, giving the Jets an opportunity to come back. Breece Hall was able to punch in two touchdowns and throw for one with a little over one minute left in the game, making the score 38-36.
Quarterback Justin Fields expresses his emotions about the win.
“When I was on the field, I was damn near crying, Not because we won. But just how everything I’ve been through the past week, everything we’ve been through as a team these past seven weeks. Lots of ups and downs,” says Fields.
The Bengals defense struggled badly in the 4th quarter against the Jets’ motivated offense. Cincinnati’s defense let up 23 points in the final quarter, ultimately letting New York back in the game for a chance. The Jets would end up taking that chance and push it all the way down the field to kick a game winning field goal to give them the lead. With under a minute left in the game, the Jets defense was able to hold the Bengals offense and make them turn over the ball, giving the Jets their first win.
Bengals Head Coach Zac Taylor talks about the team’s performance.
“Not acceptable, Humbling for us certainly,” says Taylor.
