The YSU basketball team hosted 1-3 Lake Erie Storm on Sunday, November 19.

If the Penguins come away with the win, they will become 3-2. Going into the half, the game was tied at 32.

John Lovelace Jr. led the Penguins with 29 points and also led the team with 7 rebounds.

The Penguins all count on each other to help each other in tough scenarios.

“Confidence, the guys believing in me. Us believing in each other, picking each other up, some might not have the best game but our team’s deep enough to where anybody can go off any given night,” says Lovelace.

For the Storm, Johnny Manning led the team with 14 points and not that far behind is Leon Hughes with 11 points.

Coach Calhoun still shows love for the Penguins’ previous coaches.

“To have Coach Slocum here was really neat, you know, the guy was here for a number of years and did some great things when this conference was high level. So I was glad we were able to honor him,” says Coach Calhoun.

Two former Struthers Wildcat basketball players, Ronnie Leonard and Aidan Slocum, played for Lake Erie last Sunday.

Coach Calhoun knows that his team has to become better at the little things.

“We are definitely a work in progress, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to say that you know, I told them we’re in the meat and potatoes of the program right now,” says Coach Calhoun.
