“The Rookie” is a cop based show stationed in LA. The first season’s episode starts with a construction worker, John Nolan, placing some of his belongings in the bank. While he was leaving, an armed robbery occurred. Nolan bravely stepped up to the robbers and distracted them while the bank owner pressed the secret alarm, and he distracted the robbers until the cops showed up. Nine months later, he and two others, Lucy Chen and Jackson West, are accepted into the FTO program, where they are rookie cops at the LAPD.
Since the start, the original rookies were very close. Throughout the first and second season, they each had their own training officer. They all have to overcome a few obstacles, and all three were put into situations that could’ve washed them out of the program, but they got through it. Jackson West and his training officer Angela Lopez gained a very beautiful friendship during their time together. Sadly, at her wedding her and Jackson both got kidnapped and Jackson died. Everyone was very devastated but had to move on with their lives. Time went on, Nolan and Chen became P2’s, Angela became detective and Tim Bradford, Lucy’s former training officer, became sergeant.
The show contains many tragedies and heartbreak, including their captain dying in season one and Lucy being drugged and kidnapped by the alliance of a serial killer, Rosalind Dyers. Nolan gets the “Golden Ticket” soon after and instead of becoming a detective like he always wanted. He became a training officer and got his first rookie. In season 7, Bradford was still eligible to be a training officer, and Lucy was given the power to be one by the Sergeant Grey. During Lucy’s time training her rookie, she notices her rookie lying about everything and washes him out of the program. The newest season, season 8, provides a new episode every Tuesday. So far, very unexpected events have happened.
Two enjoyable factors about the show are the actors and skills and the lessons it teaches. The skills and emotions provided are incredible; a lot of talent and training is put into it. It shows the realness in the world, not only the good, but the bad too. They give their all into their performance no matter what’s going on. The show also gives lessons; they show mistakes and teach based off of it. They teach the right and wrong things in certain situations and inspire many people.
The show deserves a 5-star rating, not only for the actors but their talent and dedication. They have put their all into the show since 2018. Each episode has a different focus, so no one knows what may occur and they don’t leave off on cliffhangers, leaving someone with clarity or guessing what will happen next.
