“Elf” was released on November 7, 2003 as a comedic and family friendly Christmas movie. Buddy The Elf (born as human but raised as an elf his whole life) traveled from the North Pole on foot to New York City to meet his biological father during Christmas time in the early 2000’s.
Starting off with Buddy’s childhood, he was put into an adoption center as a baby then on Christmas Eve, crawled into Santa’s sack without anyone knowing. Nobody knew until Santa was back at the North Pole. When the elves and Santa finally realized they had him, Papa Elf volunteered to raise him. This continued on until he was an adult. He saw he wasn’t making toys as fast as the others and got upset. He then heard 2 other elves talking saying that he wasn’t an actual elf. He ran home and when Papa elf got back and saw he was upset, he gave him a snow globe and told him his real father lives in New York City. Santa gave him tips about New York, what to do and what not to do, then he started his journey. He had finally made it to New York at his father’s workplace. His father didn’t accept him as his child, but Buddy didn’t stop trying. He went to the store “Jimbles” and was mistaken as one of the workers because he was still in his elf outfit. He met a girl that worked there, Jovie, and he started to gain feelings for her. Buddy wouldn’t stop trying until he gained a relationship with his father; at one point, they even got a DNA test proving he was his father’s son. He let him into his home and things started off rough, but progressively got better. Until his father was in a very important meeting for work, and Buddy interrupted that meeting accidentally and lost him the deal. He then screamed at Buddy telling him to stay out of his life; Buddy then ran away. He wouldn’t have come back if it wasn’t for his little brother wanting to go find him. While Buddy was running away, he saw Santa and his sleigh crashed. The Christmas spirit was dropping. Buddy, Buddy’s little brother and Jovie all helped to get the Christmas spirit back. Jovie and Buddy then lived happily.
Buddy’s story in this movie is both sad and heartwarming. He wanted something, so he went and did it for himself. He showed dedication and relentlessness throughout the entire movie. He was faced with many challenges and still continued to overcome them no matter how hard. This includes walking to his father in New York City to do everything he could to prove to his father he wanted to be with him. Buddy has really great characteristics through the whole movie, like kindness, caringness and dedication. He created good relationships even though some started out bad, with his father, his little brother, and Jovie. Even though he had challenges to overcome, he continued to spread the Christmas spirit.
