CARCELLI SWINGS AWAY AT GOLF FOR FIRST TIME

Gio Carcelli is a freshman golfer at Struthers High School.

This is his first time golfing in his life; therefore, to start late creates a few challenges. Especially with the rain this season, it’s hard to get out to practice. Still, he has set goals for the year and is going to continue to push through until the season fully arrives.

Carcelli is working on improving his skill no matter the weather.

“The weather is challenging this year, but trips at Top Golf have been helping,” said Carcelli.

Out of many skills Carcelli has in golf now, confidence is a key part. Within his confidence, he believes the only thing he needs to improve on is putting and the rest is perfect. Also, in his goals and confidence, Carcelli believes the team, including him, will make it to state this season.

The athlete trusts himself and his team to perform well this year.

“I need to work on putting, but the rest of my swing is fine. I’m not worried for this year because the team is going to state,” said Carcelli.

Golf is currently the only sport he plays, but previously, he has played baseball. He also loves to watch all sports, like basketball, baseball, wrestling and more. Through all of those, his love for golf was the strongest, and now it is the only sport he plays.

Carcelli has plans to continue playing golf throughout high school.

“I plan to play golf all four years because I’ll be with my friends, and it is the only sport I want to continue to play,” said Carcelli.

As the season approaches, Carcelli gets more and more excited to begin. He’s looking forward to new friends, new experiences and more.
