“THE SOUND OF MUSIC” REMAINS TIMELESS PIECE

“The Sound of Music” came out in 1965, starring Julie Andrews. It is a timeless film that remains the sixth-highest-grossing film worldwide (when adjusted for inflation).

The movie has a total duration of 2 hours and 54 minutes. The movie takes place in Austria in 1938. It follows a woman who is starting life anew as a governess for several children. As the woman, Maria, looks after the kids, she brings music and joy into their lives and becomes very ingrained in the family. The movie attributes a lot of power to music and its ability in our lives. It shows her gaining the trust and transforming the seven children from the military discipline they were used to. She even wins over the father of the family, Captain von Trapp.

One attractive aspect of the movie is the acting. The storyline is good; however, the acting is quite skilled. The main character is played by Julie Andrews, an iconic actress whose ability to display the demeanor of a cheery governess, even when faced with the challenges from the children, is admirable. The seven children also display skilled acting that allows the watcher to become immersed in the movie. The ability of the actors to convey everything they needed through their acting was impressive. Furthermore, they all knew how to use this acting ability while singing, and the movie didn’t lose any emotion during those transitions.

Another interesting aspect of the movie is the soundtrack itself. The songs are interesting musically and flow well within the story. Most of the soundtrack is simple but appealing. The emotion that is in the songs, as well as the joy they evoke, not just from the characters but from the watcher, more than makes up for any complaints of simplicity. The music throughout the movie keeps you entranced with the plot and characters and even endears the children to you. The songs from the movie are even known today and used on social media, even if some don’t know where the songs are coming from. The soundtrack is a unique one, even featuring a famous song in which Maria attempts to teach the children the solfege. Overall, the soundtrack is truly an appealing part of the movie.

Moreover, the musical film earns a 5/5 because of its timeless ability to entertain, the immense talent and the wonderful soundtrack.
