“Paradise” is a 2025 Hulu sci-fi thriller series starring Sterling K. Brown as Xavier Collins, who is a Secret Service agent investigating a murder in a seemingly picture perfect community.
The first season of “Paradise” follows Xavier’s journey as he looks into the murder of President Cal Bradford–who he works for and protected–inside of a highly “secure” society. Collins becomes a lead suspect of the mystery due to their close connection, but he works to clear his name quickly and find the truth behind his death. While doing this, he uncovers several hidden secrets about the people surrounding him and the true nature of the town that he and his kids live in. What appeared as a normal and protected city is actually a lot more controlled and dangerous than it seemed. The show is a mix of political drama and suspense, revealing that the outside world isn’t what everyone was encouraged to believe. The residents are living in isolation, believing they are humanity’s best chance at life, but strict rules, hidden agendas and powerful people create constant tension. Throughout the season, trust is tested as characters struggle with betrayal and survival. It ends with extreme discoveries and a shocking confession from the antagonist, Sinatrato (Julianne Nicholson) to Xavier, about his wife whom he had assumed was dead after the world supposedly ended. These revelations completely change the way people perceive the leaders of the underground city and the understanding of the place that is supposed to feel like “Paradise.”
This film has many addictive twists and suspenseful moments. Every episode is unexpected and ends with a scene that makes people want to keep watching. The turns often change the entire show from a political murder mystery to a post-apocalyptic thriller about survival. The show doesn’t drag on, and it keeps the tensions high through the eight episode season. It also fully avoids predictable plot lines, keeping the audience questioning the core of the bunker community.
Another thing that makes this series so amazing and engaging is the top tier acting. Sterling K. Brown’s performance as Xavier carries the show due to his heart and emotional depth. His character has layers that continue unraveling after the first season and into the next. It’s very enjoyable to watch the dark and complex energy of the main villain, Sinatra, along with the rest of the characters as well because they each bring something different and compelling to the screen. It makes the film a “fun” thriller but dives into wealth inequality and the psychological impact of living in “Paradise” built on lies.
“Paradise” deserves a 5/5 star rating because of strong cast performances, suspenseful plotlines and high-quality storytelling.
