The first season of “The Last of Us” came out January 15th, 2023. This series is based off of the video made in 2013.
When the series premiered, the show instantly gained 40 million views just in two months alone. The show starts in the time of 2003, where a mass cordyceps fungal infection starts spreading and develops into a zombie apocalypse. This sparks a societal collapse. Joel (Pedro Pascal) flees Austin Texas, with his daughter Sarah and his brother Tommy. Unfortunately, Sarah is shot by a soldier. Joes pleads to the soldier to save his “babygirl” as she bleeds out in his arms. The show shifts to 20 years later where Joel is working as a smuggler in a quarantine zone with his partner Tess. They plan to use the money that they are making to escape this quarantine with a truck. That’s when they meet a 14-year-old girl named Ellie. Ellie is infected. Although, she claims that she is immune to the virus. The show goes and moves on showing Joel’s, Ellie and Tess’s adventure and journey to survival.
One downside about the pacing throughout the show. They could have changed how fast they rushed through certain events, and it would make it more enjoyable for the viewer. Not only that, they could have done a better job at seeing what the community wanted to see. Instead, they rushed the show that ruined many people’s favorite franchise.
Another thing that could be critiqued is the lack of “infected events.” Even though the show was overall a good show, they took away the “zombie part” in parts of the show making it mostly just apocalyptic. The whole idea with a zombie movie barely having action with zombies just throws everyone off. Many fans of the game hated this part of the series.
The show deserves a 8/10. The show makes the viewer feel on their toes and unsure of what’s going to happen next.
