“REMINDERS OF HIM” SHATTERS HEARTS

“Reminders of Him” is a 2026 romantic drama film adapted to screen from Colleen Hoover popular novel, following Kenna (Maika Monroe), who comes back home after serving 5 years in prison. She struggles rebuilding her life after being blamed for her boyfriend Scotty’s (Rudy Pankow) death while gaining custody of her daughter Diem (Zoe Kosovic).

Consumed with never ending guilt after the accident several years ago, Kenna returns to Laramie, Wyoming to meet Diem after Scotty’s parents took full custody of her. However, the community remains spiteful, and her daughter’s grandparents are determined to keep Kenna away from Diem’s life forever. The situation shifts when she forms a trusting bond with the local bar owner. Ledger (Tryiq Withers) is a formal NFL player and is deeply involved in Diem’s life, helping Scotty’s parents raise her because he was their son’s childhood best friend. Ledger initially dislikes Kenna, but after spending more time with her–and hiring her to work with him–he falls for her after realizing she is not the monster Grace (Lauren Graham) and Patrick (Bradley Whitford) made her out to be. Their growing connection creates a major conflict, as Ledger must choose between his loyalty to Scotty and his sympathy for Kenna’s redemption. Their complicated relationship becomes more intense as Scotty’s parents continue to entirely blame Kenna for the loss of their son. Ultimately, the story explores the process of healing and focuses on redemption in a town of people who refuse to forget the past.

In this film, the leading actor, Maika Monroe, delivers an emotional performance as Kenna that carries the film as she expresses authentic heartbreak. Her portrayal captures the internal struggle of a mother fighting for a second chance and doing anything to prove herself. She brings a genuine sense of vulnerability to the role of Kenna, bringing the character from the novel alive. This strong lead performance helps elevate the story in a positive light.

“Reminders Of Him” also has beautiful cinematography and creates an inviting atmosphere throughout the Wyoming setting, especially with the people that Kenna befriends at her apartment. The background of the mountains and hills offer a sense of place that balances the somber storyline. Overall, the visuals provide an admirable backdrop for the heavy themes of grief explored in the movie.

This is a 5/5 star film that is perfect for those who enjoy emotional storylines about overcoming the past and offering second chances.
