“Matilda” is a beloved musical, children’s book and movie.
Throughout the years, different versions of “Matilda” have been released. In 1988, the original book was published by Roald Dahl. Next, the musical was produced in 2011. Then, the movies were released in 1996 and 2022. The cast of the 2022 film released on Netflix includes Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir), Mr. Wormwood (Stephen Graham), Pani Wormwood (Andrea Riseborough), Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson), Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch) and Lavender (Rei Yamauchi Fulker). The film consists of Matilda Wormwood, a perfect student and very smart, who is bullied by her parents and Miss Trunchbull. However, she uses her powers to punish those who have been cruel to her. In the end, she finds the one person who is willing to care for her, and that is her own teacher, Miss Honey.
One important part of “Matilda” is the intelligence she has had from such a young age. When she was younger, she would go to the library by herself and read so many different books that were beyond the reading level of other kids her age. Her knowledge also served as a major tool for overcoming her fears. It allowed her to feel comforted in times when she was treated poorly by the headmistress and her parents. It also made her more aware of her surroundings and how Miss Honey was someone she could actually trust. Due to her desire to learn, she was able to develop the power of being able to move objects without touching them. Overall, Matilda’s being smart contributes to the story by allowing her to overcome challenges.
Another key aspect of “Matilda” is the relationship she has with her family. Her family always seems to push her to the side because they do not believe in reading or learning new things outside of school. They were majorly surprised by how good she is at math and her ability to catch on to things quickly. Her relationship with her family allows her to push forward through every difficult situation. This propels the plot forward as Matilda’s parents are what allow her to grow and become a better person in the end. All in all, the relationship between Matilda and her parents led to her being adopted by Miss Honey, which was for the better.
In conclusion, “Matilda” would be rated a 5/5 because it is a childhood classic. It would also be recommended to anyone who is looking for something nostalgic to watch or read.
