Delaney Painter is a sophomore student athlete who attends Struthers High School. She is a proud member of the Wildcats track and cross country team.
Painter is a multi-sport athlete and has participated in track since her 7th grade year and cross country since the beginning of her freshman year. She enjoys how running clears her mind and lays off some stress.
The sophomore athlete believes you need to have many aspects to participate in this sport, but she thinks this is the most important one.
“Having the mental strength to keep going is the most important,” says Painter.
During the off season, she likes running around Yellow Creek Park or simply just running on her treadmill. Even though the sophomore has come a long way, she thinks she could still perform a lot better.
Painter doesn’t only have goals for herself, but she also has goals for her team as a whole as well.
“I want to PR in the mile for track, and I want to get a 27 minute 5k in cross country,” she says.
As the athlete grew up running, she has learned a lot of skills and tricks from the older runners. Even though she is currently the oldest runner, her brother was one of the people who helped her get into liking this sport.
The student athlete might only be a sophomore, but she still has words of encouragement for the upcoming players.
“I would tell upcoming players that running only gets easier the more you do it as long as you put in the effort,” says Painter.
