Released on November 20, 2015, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” quickly rose to be a top-tier film. The film wrapped up Katniss Everdeen’s (Jennifer Lawrence) story and was the highly anticipated finale of the franchise.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” follows Katniss as she teams up with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Finnick (Sam Claflin) as she plans the final mission to take down the capitol. The team leaves district 13 to sneak into the Capitol to take down President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Snow’s biggest mission is to destroy Katniss because she started a revolution with the people of Panem. Throughout the movie, Katniss faces traps, enemies and dangerous battles that will determine the fate of not only her future, but the entirety of Panem’s future.
The relationship between Katniss and Peeta has now developed from a traumatic, broken partnership into a supportive romantic relationship. At the beginning of the film, Peeta and Katniss are rebuilding the trust between them. Peeta is trying to figure out what was actually real and the distorted memories and what the Capitol told him was real, which were all lies. Throughout their growing relationship, both characters recover their love for each other and realize they need each other to survive.
Katniss grows from a survival focused teenager into a determined and compassionate leader for the people of Panem. She is now learning how to trust others and build a foundation for Panem. She grows to be the symbol of District 13, the Mockingjay, and trunks into an active leader. She was driven by protecting her family throughout the entirety of the film. Katniss overcomes her fear of loss and vulnerability and learns to love and trust.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” deserves a 5/5 star rating for the emotional ending to a world famous franchise. The movie was high stakes and powerful, but also making the viewers feel sad that it’s over.
