“Project Hail Mary” follows a teacher who wakes up on a spaceship who was forced to be an astronaut.
The junior high teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up from a coma with amnesia on a spaceship. He realizes he is humanity’s last hope to stop an alien microbe (Astrophage) from consuming the sun and causing an ice age. He tries to complete this mission with Eva Stratt (Sandra Huller) as the leader of the operation. The movie is based on Andy Weir’s novel; the story follows a stranded, amnesiac Grace on a spaceship, relying on flashbacks to earth and an alien ally named Rocky to stop an energy-consuming crisis. Ryland tries his hardest but no matter what he keeps failing. In the end, Ryland saves earth by sending the taumoeba cure but chooses not to return home, instead saving his alien friend Rocky.
The producers of the movie did an amazing job by making the movie resemble the book so much. Usually when books are created into movies, they leave out a lot of information and detail, but they cover pretty much everything. They knew what they were doing when they thought of the idea to make it a movie. The movie is so good it’s nominated for best Sci-Fi movie of the year.
The plot of this movie was very slow, and they lacked action in this movie. The producers kept repeating scenes and just making it not make any sense. The movie was good, but the way they made the protagonist have a thin development was a little upsetting to the audience. The book was so good that the audience viewed the movie as if it had not finished.
Overall, this movie deserves a 8/10 for the amazing way they left nothing out from the book. They could have done better with having more action and a better plot.
