DAILEY NOMINATED FOR YOUNGSTOWN-WARREN REGIONAL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

Mr. Dailey, a history teacher here at Struthers High School, has been nominated for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Educator of the Year Award.

Mr. Dailey teaches American History, AP Government and AP Psychology. Out of those classes, his favorite to teach is AP Psychology because he has only been teaching it for 2 years and still has much more to learn.

The psychology teacher loves the subject and is excited to further his expertise.

“I am learning so much about psychology, and I am hungry to learn more, and I am excited to learn more. There are still things that I’m learning as I am preparing my lessons and preparing my class activities,” Dailey said.

Mr. Dailey is known for bringing this inquisitive and energetic mood into the classroom. Every day he comes in ready to create discussions and keep students engaged. He envisions himself in the seats of his students when he teaches, and he uses that to motivate him to keep up his energy and positive attitude in the classroom.

He has been teaching for 20 years and has found that letting students participate freely and share their opinions, as well as keeping up a positive energy is the best way to keep students engaged.

“I think conversations and discussions are the most important thing. I’m not just giving them a worksheet or a textbook and telling them to figure it out. I try to create discussions where students can interact with me and each other. I think that promotes learning a lot better than busy work,” says Dailey.

Dailey cares deeply about every one of his students, comparing them to even his own children. He continues to find ways to improve his classroom and keep his students engaged. His goal is to reach every last student and teach them to the very best of his ability

As a father himself, he wants all students to have the education that he wishes his own children to have.

“I have kids that are the age of high school students, so I envision my own sons being in my classroom and what kind of teacher I would want for my own kids. I want to be that teacher,” says Dailey.
