Lily Polis is a student athlete at Struthers High school. She is going into her third year as a Struthers High School cheerleader and volleyball player.
Although Polis does both volleyball and cheerleading, her main priority is volleyball. Polis has been playing volleyball since 2021 for the Mahoning Valley Premier 12 volleyball team. Since then, she has had nothing but love for the sport and has such a deep passion for it.
Polis feels that volleyball has brought her so much happiness, and it has allowed her to form bonds with people she would have never met.
“I plan on playing volleyball all throughout high school because the sport means a lot to me. It has brought so many people into my life, and it is something that I enjoy doing with my time,” says the athlete.
The student has been cheering since before she got to high school, but she wanted something more. Polis had many older role models who she looked up to who were volleyball players. They had inspired her to start playing and sparked her love for volleyball.
The athlete believes her biggest motivation is her mother who pushes her to be the best version of herself.
“My mom keeps me motivated; she supports me the most and never fails to get me out of my head,” says Polis.
While volleyball is her main sport, both cheerleading and volleyball have such an important role in her life. Polis has been cheering for 11 years and playing volleyball for 6. These sports keep her very involved and busy, but on top of those she is also involved in Interact Club where she volunteers and shows school spirit.
Polis believes that the thought of not being able to play volleyball forever keeps her moving and wanting to improve.
“Another thing that keeps me motivated is that I won’t be able to do this my whole life, so I want to make it last while I can,” says the student.
