On September 18th, 2009, a horror film starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried was released. This film is titled “Jennifer’s Body.”
“Jennifer’s Body” is a horror comedy film directed by Karyn Kusama. The movie was mostly filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It has a runtime of just about an hour and 45 minutes. Its cast also features other actors like Adam Brody, Chris Pratt and Johnny Simmons.
One of the main components of the film is the plot. High school student Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) is a popular cheerleader who lives in Devil’s Kettle, Minnesota with her best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried). After a close call with a fire at a local bar, a sketchy band leads Jennifer into a van turning into a botched satanic ritual. After that night, Jennifer began acting strange, turning into a bloodthirsty succubus that lures in men with her good looks before feasting upon them. After her best friend Needy finds out the truth, she tries to stop her from causing more harm.
The underlying message of this film is actually very meaningful. The whole film acts as a metaphor for sexual assault and trauma. It shows the messy parts of being a teenage girl and how trauma can really change a person. Jennifer’s rage against men and the world turned into her becoming a blood sucking monster, even pushing away her closest friend. The end of the movie brings the whole film full circle when Needy murders Jennifer’s attackers, getting justice for her friend even after everything she had done.
Overall, this movie was way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, it was marketed towards the wrong audience, steering more towards men who didn’t really understand the film or its message. With the proper marketing and editing, this movie could have been a 10/10.
