“PRIDE AND PREJUDICE” EXPRESSES TIMELESS LOVE

“PRIDE AND PREJUDICE" EXPRESSES TIMELESS LOVE

“Pride and Prejudice” is a romantic drama that follows the outspoken Elibabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) as she navigates family drama and societal pressures. Through her journey, she finds love in Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), creating a visually stunning and emotionally rich story that is captivating.

“Pride and Prejudice” is set in England during the 19th century and follows the lives of the Bennet family, whose mother is desperate to marry them off to wealthy and respectable men. The arrival of Mr. Bingley accompanied by his friend Mr. Darcy sparks chaos as the oldest daughter of the Bennet sisters falls for Bingley while Elibabeth forms an immediate loathing for Darcy as their interaction made Darcy seem arrogant and unlikable. Elizabeth’s prejudice against Darcy continues through the movie. She believes in fake rumors about his character, leading her to reject his first marriage proposal. However, Darcy’s letter and his quiet actions to help the Bennets’ reputation from a scandal begin to change her mind. Soon after, Elizabeth visits Mr. Darcy realizes his true intentions towards her, they overcome personal growth and form a mutual respect for one another. In the end, the two get happily engaged while Jane marries Bingley.

One thing done exceptionally well in this adaption is the crafting of deep and emotional characters that work to better themselves. The development of Elizabeth and Darcy feels genuine and natural rather than rushed. Both characters undergo quiet, internal transformations, learning to overcome their pride through self evaluation. This ensures their eventual reunion stems from mutual respect and true love.

“Pride and Prejudice” is known for the creation of memorable characters through sharp dialogue that reveals their distinct personalities without being reliant on the exposition. The characters use irony and humorous commentary that makes the story entertaining. It also focuses heavily on the importance of marrying for love rather than financial security. This provides a deep portrayal of human relationships and understanding between them.

The journey of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy is a 5 star rating due to its timeless wit, character development and relatable character portrayals.
