PURCELL PLAYS TENNIS PASSIONATELY

Juliet Purcell is a sophomore at Struthers High School. She started playing tennis the summer before her freshman year and has been playing since.

Purcell had friends involved in tennis and that sparked her interest. She wanted to try it out and see if she enjoyed it since it was a good way to stay active. Tennis is not the only school activity the athlete is involved in; she is involved in many more including French Club, Interact Club, Future Teachers Club and Medical Careers Club.

The other girls on the tennis team make it enjoyable for Purcell, and that is what she likes most about playing.

“My favorite thing about tennis is being able to play with such kind and fun people on my team,” says the athlete.

The student is thrilled for the upcoming season. She is excited to see the improvement she will make and to be with the people she does not frequently get to see. The athlete wants to see the changes made in the lineup and is hoping to be in the starting lineup.

Purcell believes watching her teammates and herself improve in the sport make her a better player and allow the athlete to enhance her skills.

“I stay motivated because I see my friends around me do well, and I have support from others. It pushes me to work harder and do better,” says the student.

She plans to play at the minimum of one more year. The student is unsure of playing beyond her junior and finishing off as a senior.

The athlete feels that she should wait and see what opportunities she will have and hopes to do what will best impact her later in life.

“I haven’t decided on if I will continue to play throughout my senior year because the summer before my senior year I want to intern at places and do things to benefit my future career,” says Purcell.
