SHAFFER LOOKS INTO FUTURE

James Shaffer is a student athlete at Struthers High School. He has been playing high school basketball for three years now and plays on varsity.

Shaffer has been playing basketball since he was in 7th grade, he was influenced by his mom who had a big impact on him. The athlete maintains good grades while also maintaining basketball practice and games 7 days a week.

The junior athlete has a great memory from the season that sparked a change in their season.

“My favorite memory is when we beat Lakeview at their place because it was a huge win to help us gain confidence,” says the basketball player.

The high school basketball team has a lot of talent that just needs to come together. We have tall kids and kids with good agility, but as our team goes through a rough patch, they choose to work on personal talent and communication while they fight adversity.

Shaffer believes that our high school basketball team will have a change in athletics come next year. The basketball team has talent coming up and good athletes continuing their careers.

“I do think we will because in the past years we have been fighting adversity throughout the entire year and it’s just a rough spot in our career,” says the power forward.

The high school student takes pride in his sport while he faces personal and team struggles. He plays hard along with being a good teammate.

The center debates his decision to continue his career after he graduates next year.

“Depending on how my senior year looks will depend on if I’m going to pursue my career in basketball,” says Shaffer.
