SAHLI SHINES ON BASKETBALL COURT

Isabella Sahli is a senior at Struthers High School. She is the post player for the girls basketball team. She’s also part of the soccer team and throws for the track team.

The student athlete is president of the National Honor Society and Treasurer of the Spanish Club. Sahli takes lots of pride in being involved; helping others is something she truly enjoys. The Spanish Club and NHS allow her to do this.

Sahli enjoys volunteering so much that she works with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. This gives her opportunities to not only volunteer for our school but also for our community.

“I have worked events such as the Buddy Walk, the Ability Walk, the Trick-or-Treat event and many more. I enjoy these activities [with the Scrappers] for the same reasons I do NHS, because I love being involved in my community as much as possible,” says the athlete.

The senior has been playing basketball for 10 years, which makes it difficult for balancing time. She does many different sports, but likes to spread them all out so she has time to individually interact with each sport and focus on herself.

After balancing multiple sports during the school year, the senior shifts her focus to preparing for basketball in the offseason. The work she puts in during the summer plays a major role in keeping her ready for the challenges of the upcoming season.

“We did so much during the summer to get ready for now. I went to open gyms and team lifts all summer to get used to playing basketball again. Similarly, for me what was most important was working out on my own. I went to the gym every day and did something to help myself stay in shape and get stronger for the season ahead. I think it is so important that you are physically ready for basketball, since it is such a physically challenging sport, so I did whatever I could on my own to get ready for that,” says the President of NHS.

With Poland being our rivals, it feels incredible beating them in any sport. In 2025, the girls basketball team beat them two times at Struthers.

This moment was very memorable, as it would be to anyone. The student was very proud of herself and her amazing team.

“My biggest accomplishment in basketball is definitely when we beat Poland twice in my junior year. Specifically, beating them at home was the most special for me. We were the first-ever NE8 team to beat them at home, so that was a title I can always say I was a part of. Also, it was my highest-scoring game to date, with me having 11 points and contributing heavily to our win. I will also never forget the feeling of beating them at home, and us playing “Candy Rain” in the locker room afterwards. It was such a great time and something I will always remember,” says the senior.
