Giuliana Cope is a sophomore at Struthers High School. She has been playing tennis for three years and just finished her second season on the team.
Cope started playing tennis for the first time during her 8th grade year. She was inspired by her older brother who she would often see play. She decided to give it a chance and try something new.
The athlete feels that her biggest motivation is thinking about how hard she is working to improve her skill, along with the support from the people around her.
“What keeps me motivated is the thought that I am doing everything to become a better player. I also gain a lot of motivation from my teammates and coach,“ says Cope.
While the athlete stays busy with tennis, she had to learn to manage her time with school and other activities. The student is involved in different clubs including French Club, Future Teachers Club, Interact Club and Medical Careers Club, while still performing well academically. It can be difficult to tackle everything at once, but Cope always finds a way.
The athlete enjoys passing time by playing tennis and feeling the improvement. It is what she enjoys most about tennis.
“My favorite thing about tennis is that it gives me something to do and focus on. I like to be able to practice and become better,” says the student.
The athletes last season left her excited for the upcoming season. Cope can’t wait to spend her summer on the court and create stronger bonds with her teammates. Although it may be stressful at times, tennis is always something Cope can look forward to.
The student is thrilled to see the different ideas the coach has for the team and how it will benefit them.
“I am excited for the upcoming season because there is going to be some changes in the line up, which is really exciting,” says the athlete.
