Mel Robbins is a #1 New York Times best-selling author and an award-winning podcast host. She is looked to for personal growth advice and just overall inspiration. “The Let Them Theory” was published December 24, 2024. She wrote this book with her daughter with the hopes to inspire people to take their power back and calming oneself. 

The book first begins with Mel opening up to her readers about her life crumbling around her; she was in debt, unemployed and avoiding life overall. However, by finding her way through this, she is now capable of telling her story in order to help others by shedding light on tools she used to grow as a person. In theory, when you stop wasting time and energy on all the things you are unable to control, you become less stressed and more in control of your own life. It’s about freeing yourself from the constant burden of worrying about everything. Even though this can feel so freeing on its own, she stresses how important it is to say not only let them but let me. This means that after you let whatever happens happen you then have the power to control your own reaction, let me. When you can finally be okay with people’s actions and control how you respond to them, that is when you have your power. She touches on every situation in which you can apply the Let Them Theory. For instance, this can include managing stress, other peoples opinions/ comparison and even everything that comes with managing different kinds of relationships. The book includes many of her own personal experiences; this is so people reading can relate to real life situations. Nearing the end of the book is all about redirecting energy to your own growth and living a self-fulfilled life without trying to control everything around you. 

An amazing thing about “The Let Them Theory” is how she talks about growth in such a positive way. It is tremendously important to take your powers back from others and focus on putting yourself first in order to live a manageable and fulfilling life. She stresses that you can take any situation and control how you respond. This works fantastically to motivate readers to not give up. The Let Them Theory inspires many to cut off negative external attachments and look inside in order to problem solve. 

One thing many people may find valuable is how she uses her own personal experiences to relate better to her audience. However, this might not be helpful to some due to the fact that some people don’t respond well to hearing other people’s stories. It can be very  comforting to readers to hear other peoples’ experiences of similar situations with similar emotions. Sometimes people do not like hearing others talk about themselves when they are looking for help.  

“The Let Them Theory” is a wonderful book that explores letting things happen and acknowledging you don’t have control over anything other than yourself. It is all about reflection while also growing in order to be the happiest version of yourself. It is a 4 out of 5 star book that people should read if they’re looking for a life-changing tool to help them reclaim their power by hearing different perspectives and experiences.
