TYLER, THE CREATOR’S ALBUM STICKS TO MINDS OF FANS

Flower Boy by Tyler, The Creator was released on July 21, 2017.

The album is about 47 minutes long with 12 songs. The album features prominent singers like Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky, Kali Uchis, Lil Wayne, Jaden Smith, Steve Lacy, Rex Orange Country, Anna of the North and Estelle. Some of the notable songs within the album are “See You Again,” “Who Dat Boy,” “I Ain’t Got Time” and “911/Mr. Lonely.” The album adds yet another character to Tyler’s “alter egos” being named “Flower Boy.”

“See You Again” may just be one of the most popular songs within Tyler’s whole career. Even those who are not fans of Tyler, or may not even know who he is, know this song. The song has a blend of dreamlike romance and vulnerability. Kali Uchi’s featured on this song so Tyler’s theatricality paired with her smooth vocals create a listening experience listeners want to try again and again. The song discusses themes of longing for a lover, battling loneliness and finding hope in the end. A big theme within the “Flower Boy” album is exploring love, so this song fits in perfectly alongside the others.

“Garden Shed” is a deep and relatable song for some as its themes may hit home. The song is all about Tyler’s journey from confusion and isolation to his eventual self-acceptance of his sexuality. The title “Garden Shed” is a metaphor for “the closet” many come out of when revealing and realizing their true self. The song is all set to beautiful, blooming music that shows a major artistic and personal growth on the album. The album itself explores love, acceptance and loneliness–all portrayed within this song.

This album deserves a 10/10 rating for its amazing musicality, vocals and themes.
