“ANNIE” DELIVERS CHEERFUL HOPE

“ANNIE” DELIVERS CHEERFUL HOPE

“Annie” is a musical theatre piece that first appeared on Broadway in 1977.

Throughout the years, there have been a variety of different movies that have come out, like the 1982 film, sequels and the modern 2014 film. The original cast members include Annie (Andrea McArdle), Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks (Reid Shelton), Miss Hannigan (Dorothy Loudon), Punjab (Geoffrey Holder), Grace Farrell (Sandy Faison), Molly (Danielle Brisebois)  and Rooster Hannigan (Robert Finch). The musical consists of an orphan, Annie, who dreams of living a better life. She is at a cruel orphanage that is run by Miss Hannigan. At first, Oliver Warbucks lets Annie live with him, just to please everyone, but he eventually has a genuine love for her and becomes a father figure in her life. She finds a new family, while also searching for her real parents.

A key part of “Annie” is the songs within the movie and musical. Some of the most popular ones include “Tomorrow,” “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” “Maybe,” “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” These songs add to the movie because they bring out the true side of Annie. The songs showcase her emotions and how she develops over time. Some of them also set off the scene of how life was in the orphanage and everything that she went through. In addition, they show how Annie went from complete poverty to optimism, which is shown in “Tomorrow.” Therefore, Annie’s story is told through the songs, and they are what fuel her to chase her dreams of discovering a new life, where she can be free.

Another important part of “Annie” is the relationships that she has and the ones that are formed over time. Annie’s optimism is shown through her bond with the other orphans, as she is someone they can go to because they all share similar struggles with Miss Hannigan’s rules. Annie and the orphans have a terrible relationship with Miss Hannigan because she is very controlling and she doesn’t truly care about the kids. Lastly, Annie and Oliver Warbucks have a building relationship because as they get closer, they gain respect for each other and realize that they would not be able to live without each other. All in all, the relationships make a connection between the cast, and they make the musical more intriguing.

In conclusion, the musical “Annie” would receive 5 out of 5 stars because the plot and cast work really well together. This would also be recommended to anyone who is looking for a new musical to watch.
