SENIOR FOCUS

Melyka West

Do you think graduating is exciting or scary? Why?

I think it’s a bit of both to be honest. It’s excitingly scary. Going to school here with the same people for the majority of my life, I’ve become so used to things. So graduating is such a sudden change that scares me, but also keeps me excited to see what I do next with my life.

Best advice you would give to an underclassmen?

Enjoy it all and put effort into your work. If you fall behind, it’s never too late to fix it. In the end, become the person you want to become. Everything goes by so quickly.

What is one goal you still want to achieve this school year?

Earn scholarships and have an idea of where I am going for college

Who is the teacher who has had the most effect on you in high school? Why?

Ms Edwards. I have taken Hopewell the last 4 years, so she is one teacher that I consistently had, but she also is the one who I speak to and engage with the most. She has seen multiple different stages of my life the past four years. She’s seen me when I was crying and upset, she’s seen me stressed, and even happy. She’d always listen when I would ramble on over little things, she would listen when I was being dramatic, and she would comfort me when I was down. We have created this “mother-daughter” bond that I wouldn’t trade for the world. She teaches, guides and mentors all while being a good role model. I would not be making it out of high school if it weren’t for her.

Who is your role model? Why?

My mom motivates me to be the best version of myself on a daily basis. She wants the best for me, and shows me how to get there. She is inspiring, strong and independent and she strives to be better every day.

Was high school all you expected it to be?

Not at all. I was expecting something more different. High school gave us so much more freedom that I thought compared to middle school. It is a bit more stressful and things become more real as you get older.

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life besides money, what would you ask for? Why?

Agreeing with Ethan I would say success as well. I want to be successful in my life. I hope that everything I have done and went through will be beneficial and worth it in the long run.

Are you excited or scared to graduate? Why?

Both, but I am ready to see what I do next with my life.

Madison Marshall

Do you think graduating is exciting or scary? Why?

I think for me it’s both exciting and scary because I feel like it’s gone by way too fast, but I’m also ready to go to college and work to become a teacher.

Best advice you would give to an underclassmen?

Surround yourself with people who will make you a better person.

What is one goal you still want to achieve this school year?

I would like to bring up my GPA by the end of the school year.

Who is the teacher who has had the most effect on you in high school? Why?

Mr. Dailey is the teacher that has had the biggest impact on me. After I had his class, I wanted to be a better student, and I wanted to make others happy the way he does. He also inspired me to pursue being a teacher because of his impact.

Who is your role model? Why?

I’d say my step dad is my role model because he has always worked hard to make us happy and never treated us differently for not being his children.

Was high school all you expected it to be?

High school was a bit unexpected for me because of the difference in freedom from what middle school was like.

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life besides money, what would you ask for? Why?

If I could be guaranteed one thing in life, it would be someone I can trust because I feel like I’ve met a good amount of people in high school who have betrayed my trust.

Are you excited or scared to graduate? Why?

I’m excited to graduate, it’ll be sad leaving the underclassmen, but I’m ready for the next step in my life.

Do you think graduating is exciting or scary? Why?

It’s exciting because it opens up the real world to young adults and gives new opportunities. But it could also be scary at the same time due to college and actual jobs.

Best advice you would give to an underclassmen?

Don’t listen to what people say; just be and do yourself.

What is one goal you still want to achieve this school year?

To keep passing all my classes so I can graduate.

Who is the teacher who has had the most effect on you in high school? Why?

Mr. Dailey because his positive energy always shows when we talk, and he’s just a very skilled and kind teacher.

Who is your role model? Why?

My mom always supports me and is there for me when I need her. She’s the person I go to when I achieve or just feel proud about something I’ve done, especially when it comes to academics.

Was high school all you expected it to be?

Not at all, It is easier and less stressful than I thought it would be walking into high school. As long as I studied and kept up with my work, I knew high school would be a breeze.

Do you think graduating is exciting or scary? Why?

It’s a little intimidating because I’m uncertain, but I’m more excited to try something new, and hopefully I’ll just figure it out as I go.

Best advice you would give to an underclassmen?

Just put a little effort into everything you do and you’ll be fine.

What is one goal you still want to achieve this school year?

I want to break Jacob out of his shell before graduating.

Who is the teacher who has had the most effect on you in high school? why?

I don’t think I can choose just one. Mr. Malcomson, Mrs. Mickler and Mr. Dailey have all been great teachers who supported me and helped me grow academically and as a person.

Who is your role model? Why?

I don’t really have one specific role model, but my dad’s sense of humor influenced me a lot. I think it’s more that I’ve learned from the traits I admire in other people.

Was high school all you expected it to be?

I don’t really remember what I had expected going into high school, but I do know that it’s been more fun than I originally expected.

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life besides money, what would you ask for? Why?

I think I’d like to be guaranteed success. It’d make the process of things more enjoyable without the worry of results.

Are you excited or scared to graduate? Why?

A bit of both but I think it’s about time for something new, so I’m excited.
