DORNEY GROWS THROUGH STRUTHERS CHEER

Isabella Dorney is a freshman cheerleader at Struthers High School this year.

Dorney has been cheering since 6th grade, and ever since, it has positively impacted her life. Even with playing other sports like volleyball, basketball, soccer and more, cheer has always been her favorite. Throughout the years, cheer has helped Dorney express herself and form new bonds with new people.

The young cheerleader expresses herself through cheer, and from that, formed relations with many new people.

“My first year of cheer was 6th grade! I truly love cheer because I made amazing new friends and a coach I can count on for life,” said Dorney.

Instead of just football, Dorney also cheers for basketball. As a freshman, she only cheers at freshman games, but she plans to continue and eventually cheer for varsity football and basketball. With such experience, Dorney suggests that younger people should get involved with cheering too.

Dorney advises younger people to get into cheer because of the positive impacts it has left on her.

“I would recommend younger people to get into cheer, 100%! I think it is an amazing activity that helps with many skills socially and athletically,” said Dorney.

Even if Struthers sports teams have a losing record, Struthers has always stayed positive. A big part of that has been the cheerleaders. Throughout games, they have always stayed positive in sports and extracurriculars.

Dorney believes that even after losses, everyone should look forward and try to improve on things that have gone wrong.

“I think the best thing to do when dealing with a tough loss is keeping a positive attitude and mindset. Next season the players will be able to look back on mistakes that need to be adjusted,” said Dorney.

Dorney plans to cheer throughout all of high school. She is excited to look forward and grow as a person from the opportunities given to her through cheer.
