MR NERONE: FROM NUMBERS TO ATHLETICS

Donato Nerone is an Algebra 1 teacher and athletic director at Struthers High School. Nerone is a helpful teacher, dating back to past graduates of SHS. You will always hear good things about him.

Mr. Nerone has been teaching for 11 years. 2025 is his first year as an athletic director. Nerone’s schedule consists of teaching some form of math class or dealing with athletics.

The algebra teacher uses some math factors in sports.

“When I coached tennis, angles and arcs were a big topic as we spent a lot of time teaching the athletes how to control their racket to make the ball go where it needs to go,” says Nerone.

In addition to the fact that he has been teaching for 11 years, the athletic director has helped many past students at Struthers High School pass math.

Nerone  likes to keep himself on a set schedule, dividing his time for family and work.

“I keep myself on a schedule to plan my time throughout the workday for athletics and teaching. When I am home, I try to prioritize my family and then work on things once they go to sleep if I need to catch up,” says the algebra teacher.

Being the athletic director means being well known around the school.

Mr. Nerone compares how much math class and sports have in common.

“Math teaches you how to follow a set of rules and procedures to solve complex problems through repetition. This translates to athletics as athletes need to develop skills through repetition and practice to get better,” says the athletic director
