“27 DRESSES” SETS STANDARD

A bridesmaid’s life becomes a disaster when she falls for her boss, even when he begins to date her younger sister. “27 Dresses” follows Jane and her struggles to discover herself.

The romantic comedy follows Jane, who is a big people pleaser, while she finds peace in being a bridesmaid and wedding planner for others. However, when her sister, Tess, moves back into town, she falls in love with Jane’s boss, George. When they get engaged, Jane has to pretend to be someone who she’s not to protect Tess from heartbreak. When Jane meets wedding-reporter, Kevin Doyle, their relationship grows and Jane has to figure out what George really means to her.

The character development of Jane highlights her transition from being a selfless and people pleasing bridesmaid, to focusing on herself and her own needs. In the beginning, she feels as if the only place to find happiness is by helping others and giving them what they need. Yet, when she meets new people and her relationships start to change, especially with Kevin, her opinions on others and herself shift. She begins to prioritize herself over others and stand up for herself.

The relationship between Jane and Kevin grows massively throughout the film. At first, Jane is solely focused on George and feels no connection with Kevin. She views him as another wedding-reporter, who is writing a bad story about her life. Yet, their relationship grows as they spend more time together because of Tess and George’s wedding, since Kevin is writing about it and Jane is planning it. They develop feelings towards each other, and Jane finally gets her perfect beach wedding at the end of the film.

The film “27 Dresses” receives a 5/5 star rating because of the relatable themes. It’s a classic romantic comedy that many people seek comfort in.
