MRS. WHITE MARKS SECOND YEAR AT STRUTHERS

Mrs. White is teaching for her second year at Struthers, and she is enjoying it. She teaches to help her students perform to the best of their abilities. Her unique approach to education is affecting students in positive ways, allowing them to put forth enough effort to succeed throughout their school careers.

Mrs. White is dedicated to teaching English, often thinking about it when she reads books or watches movies. She often likes to incorporate what she watches into her lesson plans. She is an avid reader and likes to take inspiration from them while designing her lesson plan.

The English teacher has always enjoyed the subject, and it shows through her teachings.

“I love to read; I’m a reader. I watch movies too, and when I read or watch something I think, ‘Oh we can use this in class’,” said Mrs. White.

Mrs. White enjoys teaching at Struthers; one of the many things that she enjoys here are the systems in place that push students to learn and develop. This year, she is teaching only freshmen, which she thinks is a big difference from sophomores. One of the biggest differences for her is standardized testing.

Mrs. White believes that both 9th and 10th graders have their own benefits and downsides when it comes to teaching them and their behaviour in class.

“My class load is different from last year, which has some benefits and some negatives. This is a little stressful because 10th graders are tested, which gives them some direction. Freshmen aren’t as stressful because you have more freedom in what to do and how to teach them,” says Mrs. White.

Mrs. White wants her class and teachings to inspire her students to read on their own, allowing them to build independence and the ability to comprehend with little help. She herself is a reader, and she thinks her students should attempt to be too, hoping that they may develop a desire to learn and improve their English abilities.

This model teacher wants her students to try their hardest to do as well as they can in life, no matter the obstacles.
