Grace Droney is a sophomore student at Struthers High School. Droney is a proud member of the Wildcats track and field team.
Grace does track, but she is very determined to go further than this outside of high school. This student-athlete believes that she is a great addition to the track and field team. Droney may be one of the younger participants on the team, but she is a leader in multiple different ways.
She has been dedicated to this sport since she was in middle school but decided to take a season off to come back better than ever.
“I ran track in 7th grade and tried a little bit in 8th grade but wasn’t very interested in it. I have since done it in freshman year and intend on doing it again in sophomore year,” says Droney.
As a member of the team, the athlete believes you need to have a good mindset when performing. Everyone on the team has to work together to accomplish having a good season.
During the season, Droney always has a good attitude going into the track meets and all of the practices.
“I think you need to have dedication and confidence. Dedication is important because even if you don’t want to come to practice every day, it helps you progress. Confidence is the biggest key to anything, but I feel like track is where you need it most. They go against so many other schools and so many people who may be better than you. It’s difficult to achieve anything without confidence,” says Grace.
The track and field runner has gained numerous friendships throughout all of the years she has been participating. Creating these friendships has been beneficial to her in many ways during the season.
She has one friendship in particular that she prioritizes making throughout this sport.
“All the friendships I have gained, one in particular, Amira West. Track has made us grow so close, and I love that,” says the athlete.
