Mannie Perez, a freshman, plays basketball and baseball for Struthers High School in the 2025-2026 seasons.
Perez is currently practicing basketball and attending open gyms for baseball. He has played baseball almost all his life and started playing basketball a few years ago. Also, he has volunteered for art projects with young students the past 2 years and has worked at the Struthers Baseball Complex all last year.
Perez has had many accomplishments and became a better person through sports.
“The greatest outcome from playing sports has been meeting new teammates–who turn into friends–which have made me the person I am today,” said Perez.
He’s not just an athlete, but also a scholar. Perez has a 4.o GPA and maintains straight A’s, even while playing sports. Even though he has practice almost every day, he still has all his work done and turned in on time.
The young student athlete works extremely hard on not just sports, but his academics too.
“I try to have good grades while keeping focus on sports, but most of the time it is a lot of work. No matter what though, I try my best in everything,” said the young student.
Perez played basketball for Struthers during 7th, 8th and 9th grade. This year, he also plays baseball. Now that he’s playing high school sports, he has the opportunity to meet new people and get better at the sports he plays.
Perez looks forward to playing high school sports for the first time ever.
“I like playing with the upperclassmen because I’ve only played with people my age. It gives me a new opportunity to meet people as well as get better at what I love to do,” said Perez.
In the future, he plans to play basketball and baseball every year and is going to stay active. He loves to play sports and Struthers is giving him a way to express his love into the Struthers community.
