Gionni Stewart is a junior at Struthers High School. Stewart plays football and basketball. He has been playing varsity since freshman year.
The athlete started playing football in fifth grade; he played throughout middle school and is more than halfway done than his high school career. He was inspired by his uncle who had played in high school as well.
The football player looks up to and is inspired by family.
“I started playing in fifth grade, and I started playing because my uncle was a really good football player. I wanted to be like him,”says Stewart.
Stewart has formed bonds throughout his time on the field with many teammates and coaches, but he has formed special bonds with certain players and coaches.
Gionni has found people to rely on and keep him going .
“My favorite teammate is Tyzere Price because we play with each other in every sport. My favorite coach would be Paul Grier because he’s a good guy and knows how to make me laugh,” says Stewart.
The student-athlete has played three seasons so far at SHS, and while our school has gone through many ups and downs, so has Stewart with getting injured his sophomore year. Each season was memorable; his favorite one was his freshman year.
The athlete got many chances to play varsity while facing many struggles.
“My freshman year we were really good and the coaches even gave me an opportunity in the playoffs on kickoff,” says the junior.
