GORILLAZ TOPS CHARTS

“Demon Days” by Gorillaz came out in the United States on May 23,  2005.

The album has 12 songs that range between 1-4 minutes. The entire album is about 50 minutes long. There are many notable songs within the album such as “Feel Good Inc,” “O Green World” and “Dirty Harry.” The song “Dare” is also included in the album as a radio edit version.

“Feel Good Inc” is regarded as one of the most recognizable songs for Gorillaz. Its iconic bassline along with its blend of musical styles create the catchy music. The song also adds to the Gorillaz universe storyline that they have created with their fictional band. “Feel Good Inc” topped charts when it was released and was recognized by many publications, such as Rolling Stone and Pitchfork Media, as one of the best of the  decade. Gorillaz received a Grammy award for “Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals” in 2006 for the song as well.

“O Green World” is a popular track for its musical complexity, its atmosphere and its  lyrical themes. The instrumentation seems to fight each other but still blend for a cohesive, unique sound. The song touches on themes of world destruction and a general loss of faith and moral center in society. This song connects to the lore of the Gorillaz band and connects to the later album “Plastic Beach.” The lead singer’s vocals convey intense emotion and help put the listener in the same place.

The album deserves a 10/10 rating for its emotional intensity, storytelling and the amazing instrumentation.
