“ENCHANTED” SHINES IN FAIRYTALES

"ENCHANTED" SHINES IN FAIRYTALES

Walt Disney Pictures presents yet another rom-com film.

“Enchanted” is a one hour and forty-seven minute long film that dives into the experience of a Giselle, (Amy Adams), who is supposed to be getting married to Prince Edward (James Marsden),  but an evil witch pushes Giselle into a wishing well while she was on the way to her wedding. The movie is filled with Giselle’s crazy experiences while living in New York–experiencing that life isn’t just filled with fairy tales. The film is filled with humorous moments but also with a twist of drama. The multiple reactions of others around her causes the movie to take place, drawing the viewers attention. Giselle takes on New York while she struggles to get herself back home, so she can get back to her prince.

Something that can be gathered from watching this film is how the importance of how some things don’t go as planned, life is filled with unexpected possibilities. As the movie deepens, Giselle was positive that she absolutely wanted to get back in her storybook, so she can marry Prince Edward. However, the more time she spends with Robert (Patrick Dempsey), she sees that he’s been her true love all along. Robert at first saw Giselle as someone who only believed in fairy tales;he saw it as ridiculous, but as time goes on he starts to catch feelings as he sees Giselle and as his daughter Morgan (Rae Covey) bond. The strong dynamic between the two characters really set off the film. Robert’s girlfriend Nancy (Idina Menzel) ended up breaking up with Robert since she saw the chemistry between the two. She ended up marrying Prince Edward. The unexpected turn in the movie kept viewers drawn in.

Another thing that can be drawn from watching this movie is the challenges of adapting to something new. At the beginning of the film Giselle was in a panic state, struggling to process that she was in New York City, wanting nothing more than to get back home. She had her ups and downs throughout the movie, adapting to the real world now. She seemed to cause problems for others around her, causing conflict between most of the characters. Although as she progressed throughout the movie she started to realize she wasn’t in a fairy tale anymore. Robert helped Giselle, teaching her right from wrong. Towards the end of the movie, she realized that she belonged in New York; although she struggled to find herself in a new environment, the people around her made her realize how being stuck in a story book isn’t as good as it seems.

All in all, “Enchanted,” is recommended for those who enjoy a good rom-com film and need a good laugh. It’s rated PG as it’s recommended for older children.
