WEST WINS OVER HER LINK GROUP

Amira West is a junior who participates in the Link program with her partner Vivian Marker. She participates in this program to give the class of 2029 an exciting start to their high school career. She will participate next year to give the class of 2030 the same exciting year.

In West’s freshmen year she didn’t have the best Link experience. The program then was not built as it is now, the groups rarely met and she didn’t fully get the point. She does feel she could have had a better experience but it still shaped her to who she is today. She has hopes to give the current freshmen a better experience in Link than she had.

West thoroughly likes her students and feels they separate themselves from another very well.

“I enjoy my group a lot. There are many different personalities and I really enjoy getting to know each of them,” says West.

The Link program has done three events so far this year, including orientation, a game of kahoot, and a PSA video. West’s favorite event has been the PSA video, she enjoyed seeing them express themselves through the video. The orientation went very well for her group, a few students were missing but it went well with what they had.

West likes how the training for Link Leaders are set up by the teachers for the get together the following day.

“During the meetings, we typically go into the library and listen to the orders that Mrs. Monus and Mr. Basile give us for the next Link day,” says West.

West hopes that the freshmen get what they need through the Link program this year. The groups haven’t done much so far this year but she is hoping that by the end of this school year they have gotten a lot out of it. By the final week of school she is hoping that the Freshmen feel her and Marker are people they can go to for help whenever necessary.

West wants the current sophomores to be prepared for their Link year, don’t undermine the freshmen.

“Have an open mind and be patient with the upcoming freshmen. Try not to “baby” them because they are more mature than how they’re viewed,” says West.
