The movie “After”–directed by Roger Kumble, Jenny Gage and Castille Landon–is a top 3 RomCom that you have to watch.
This movie has two main characters being Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes). Tessa is a dedicated student and loyal partner to her high school sweetheart to then meet Hardin, a mysterious and rebellious guy. This makes Tessa question if she knows exactly what she wants. She is invited to a party where Tessa is invited to play a game with her roommate and her friends called truth or dare. Molly (Inanna Sarkis), a girl who loves Hardin but doesn’t like Tessa, dares her to kiss him as a way to make fun of her, because she’s too “innocent”. She ends up denying him and leaving the room. The following day, they meet and he takes her to a secret place where they end up swimming together and kiss. Her boyfriend is unaware of this relationship building but later finds out when he comes to visit her. Towards the end of the movie, Tessa finds out something that changes the whole story line when she is shown a video by Molly of the party and sees that at first, Hardin was only trying to get with her as a dare. Hardin does his best to show that he actually gained strong feelings for her and tried to fix what they had built.
Many songs are played throughout the movie that depict what the mood is. Songs like “Beige” by Yoke Lore, “Us” by James Bay, “How Do I Say Goodbye” by Dean Lewis and “It’ll Be Okay” by Shawn Mendes are the ones that are played in all the sad settings.
The camera work on the movie is what makes it a real art. They do plenty of close-ups and shots in the water that look so clean it’s appealing. They do plenty of montage scenes that show how nice of a relationship they were building which made a type of suspense that kept you excited for the whole movie. This movie’s actors are what makes up the whole movie. The best character Hardin Scott is played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin. He deserves an award because he shows so much emotion.
If you are a fan of RomComs, or even if you’re not, you have to watch this movie. This movie deserves a 4 out of 5 because it keeps a strong tension between the characters and keeps an interesting story throughout the whole movie.
