Gabriella Hogue (Ella) is a junior member of the golf team who has been playing on our official team the past two years. She would have joined before if she had known we had a team. When she was younger, she played a lot of putt putt and attended a lot of driving ranges.
Winning a match makes the time and dedication worth it for her; when she wins a match after thinking she did bad it helps her realize it’s not all about her performance. Losing a match doesn’t feel good, but when she loses she uses it as a motivation to work harder and perfect her weaknesses.
Hogue is most proud of successfully completing the specific amount of swings allotted for a hole
“My biggest accomplishment was probably when I got my first par,” says Hogue.
She is very excited for her senior year; the player is ready to go around and play at several different courses and enjoy all the nature. Her goal for senior year is to end with scores of forty or under. Although she has enjoyed golf over the past few years, she’s ready for it to be over and move on to further things in her life.
Hogue’s reason for playing golf has been her dad. He played himself and loves watching her.
“My motivation has really been because of my dad. His favorite sport is golf and seeing him enjoy watching me warms my heart,” says Hogue.
The best part of golf for her has been getting to know all the different girls she plays with. She loves that she gets to make new friends each tournament and each match. The worst part of golf is either her topping the ball or missing it on her first shot.
Hogue has several ways she gets ready for a match.
“I prepare for a match by getting a good amount of sleep, practice swings, and listening to music,” says Hogue
After high school, she plans on attending Penn State for clinical psychology. She doesn’t want to continue golf after her senior year because she wants to solely focus on her studies and her major.
