Kyren Lacy, an exciting player through college football, was seen as an unstoppable force with remarkable talent. With a deep passion for the game, Lacy’s career was filled with national talk about him. However, his life was tragically cut short in April 2025, raising awareness for mental health challenges.
Lacy began his college career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette getting an amassing 50 receptions for 668 yards and 10 touchdowns over two seasons, then in 2022 Lacy transferred to LSU, where he became one of the teams best players. Over three seasons there he recorded 102 receptions for 1.692 yards and 16 touchdowns. His senior year/final year was also impressive with 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, tying for the SEC lead in touchdown receptions and earning him Second Team All-SEC honors.

Lacy’s impact extended beyond his statistics. He was known for his leadership and dedication; he contributed to LSU’s explosive offense in all the years that he played. It ultimately led to them to have the nation title in scoring and total yards per game in 2023. His efforts played a significant role in quarterback Jayden Daniels winning the Heisman Trophy that year.

“I want to thank my team, especially my best friend Kyren and Coach Kelly,” Daniels says. “It wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
Tragically, Lacy’s life was cut short on April 12, 2025, at the age of 24. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound just days before the NFL draft happened; he was projected to be a first round pick leading teams to greatness. His death highlighted immense pressures faced by athletes and sparked conversations about mental health support within the sports community, leading to organizations being created.

“Mental health is real, and for the most part, it’s invisible. Don’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small,” says Lacy’s Father. “Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you.”
Lacy’s story is a powerful reminder that behind every jersey number is a human and navigating pressure way beyond the field. Though his time was cut short, he still left a lasting impact on the sports world and the world in general. His legacy wasn’t just about touchdowns or highlights; it’s about perseverance and the urgent need to care for the person beyond the player.
