Mr. Jonathan Barth is a Tennis coach and teacher at Struthers High School. He has been coaching for 3 years and played in high school. Barth is passionate about guiding his players and bettering them on and off the court.
Every player is different when it comes to coaching style. Barth accommodates all of his players individually to help them succeed.
The coach betters the mindset of his athletes.
“Everyone responds to the things I try differently. I try to get to know my players and take note of what works with each individual so I know how to approach the students when they are feeling down,” says Barth.
Barth believes that success will only come with hard work and commitment. He instills this belief into his players. This keeps them motivated to do their best even when things get tough.
Barth uses this mindset in coaching.
“The most important thing in any sport or anything in life is that to be good it takes time and dedication. You can’t expect to be the best from day one. You need to work hard to improve yourself. Try to enjoy the journey of getting better and not stress on the failures you find along the way,” says Barth.
Barth centers his coaching philosophy around helping his players grow as individuals. He focuses on players differently based on what they need. This ensures growth for everyone.
The coach helps different levels of players.
“For new players, I focus on hitting the ball over the net and footwork. For intermediate players, I tend to focus on getting them to be more consistent and shot selection. For more advanced players, I focus on the things that I have seen causing them problems most recently. This changes often based on who they are playing against,” says Barth.
