“The Reappearance of Rachel Price” is a novel written by Holly Jackson that was released in 2024 which quickly became a fan favorite.
In the novel, “The Reappearance of Rachel Price,” eighteen year old Bels mother, Rachel Price, was presumed dead after her disappearance sixteen years ago. Bel lives with her father, Charlie, and is very close to her family. Bel’s family agrees to film a documentary about her mothers disappearance, but while filming one day, Rachel reappears. Bel believes that her mothers story of her disappearance is off and tries to figure out the truth with the help of Carter, Bels “cousin,” and Ash, Bel’s future significant other and a part of the film crew for the documentary. The truth is revealed at the end of the novel, and Bels life changes significantly after finding out the last 16 years had been a lie.
The character development between the relationship of Bel and Rachel changes throughout the novel because it starts with Bel not trusting Rachel and having deep suspicion of her. Throughout the process of the investigation of trying to discover the truth about her disappearance, a relationship of distrust and dishonesty develops. This harms Bel’s relationships with her whole family. After the truth is finally revealed, Bel and Rachel’s relationship is healthier, and they develop trust and understanding.
The plot of “The Reappearance of Rachel Price” is full of plot twists and unexpected turns. Throughout the story, Bel has to figure out who to trust and she has to figure out how to figure out the truth about her mother. Bel develops a romantic relationship with Ash in the end of the novel. Ash helped her figure out the truth of Rachel’s disappearance and her family’s secrets. Bels family has kept a lot from her about her mother, and there are a lot of plot twists that Bels family was responsible for.
The novel “The Reappearance of Rachel Price” deserves a 5/5 star rating. The story is great for mystery and thriller readers who love plot twists.
