After seasons of Boston dominating the league, the Celtics organization was finally bought for $6.1 billion by Bill Chisholm on March 20.
Chisholm is a co-founder and a partner for managing the Symphony Technology Group, a so-called private equity firm.
Growing up, Chisholom was a die-hard Celtics fan, and he believes now that he’s old enough he understands how important the Celtics are to the city of Boston. Chisholm strongly holds that the Celtics need a leader of an organization like him.
Boston sets the record for the largest sale in any sports franchise in North America.
“It surpasses the $6.05 billion sale of the Washington Commanders in 2023,” said ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The original owner Wyc Grousbeck said he was going to sell the team last year just weeks after Boston won the NBA Finals.
Grousbeck believed Chisholm would be a great candidate for the spot.
“Chisolm being from Massachusetts helped him make his bid the best bid because he really wanted this. As he says he bleeds green,” said Grousbeck.
Recent Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca was also seen to be a possible purchaser for the Boston Celtics, until he saw that his bid was officially unsuccessful.
Steve Pagliuca is happy with the new Boston Celtics owner.
“We made a fully guaranteed and financed offer at a record price, befitting the best sports fans in the world, and with all the capital coming from individuals who are fully committed to winning on and off the court,” said Pagliuca.
