“The Divergent Series: Insurgent” is the second movie in the “Divergent” series, which is inspired by the books. This movie came out on March 16, 2015, in the United States. This movie is around 1 hour and 59 minutes long.
This movie takes place while Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and the rest of the Erudites. Tris and Four are actively trying to search for answers and allies along the way. During this process, they discover that Jeanine is trying to find a strong enough divergent to unlock the box they found in Tris’s house. The box was from the founders of this city, and they are trying to open it. Throughout the rest of the movie, Erudite uses Tris to try to open the box. This tests her for every faction, but if she fails one then she unfortunately will pass away. Eventually she does open the box, and they find out that their world was just an experiment to see how the people will act. After finding this out, they broadcast it to the world and put Shailene into jail.
An important part of this movie is when Tris had to unlock the box. She was put through all five of the faction tests. She had to act like each faction perfectly in order to survive. There were many other divergents that tried to take the test, but they weren’t divergent enough to fully unlock it. That’s why Tris was able to open it because she is the only 100% divergent.
Another important aspect of this movie is the message. This is the dangers of unchecked power and its importance of embracing individuality and questioning authority. This is because throughout the movie Tris and Four are trying to remove Erudite’s power and control. Erudite was using their power to limit and control all of the other factions. In order to make everything balanced, they needed to make sure they put a stop to Erudite.
In conclusion, this movie is highly recommended for the ages 13 and up – especially people who like action and sci-fi movies – because it has a dystopian setting and includes many action scenes which are fights, chases and simulated cliffhangers.
